  • Oxervate gains FDA approval
    The FDA has approved Oxervate for treatment of neurotrophic keratitis. It contains recombinant human nerve growth factor and has been found to greatly facilitate the healing and repair of corneal epithelial cells. It may also improve corneal innervation and increase tear production.

  • Imogen has been chosen to represent NSW in the U15 girls state indoor hockey championships from 8-12 January 2019. She will be representing our state and is only one girl of two chosen in the entire state from the Illawarra. She is very excited as this is a fantastic opportunity for her.

  • Dr Hamilton is an eye surgeon based in Sydney. He works at South Coast Ophthalmology two days per fortnight. He has particular subspecialty expertise in cataract surgery, refractive laser surgery, corneal transplantation and the management of medical retinal conditions.

Dr Hamilton works at Sydney Eye Hospital where he trains international fellows and registrars in eye surgery. He holds an honorary academic position at the University of Sydney, is actively involved in research and has published in international journals.

Dr Hamilton completed medical school at the University of Newcastle. He undertook his ophthalmology specialist training at Sydney Eye Hospital and is a fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). After completing his training in Sydney, he spent two years gaining further subspecialist experience at the two largest eye hospitals in the United Kingdom. At Manchester Royal Eye Hospital he completed a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship. He then completed a medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

As well as his clinical work in Australia, Dr Hamilton remains committed to public health and improving the quality of health globally. He holds a Master of Public Health and investigated the African HIV epidemic at the World Health Organisation in Geneva. He also previously worked as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in London.
  • Machteld Hali is a patient and a local Kiama artist who recently underwent successful bilateral cataract surgery by South Coast Ophthalmology.
Her dramatic visual improvement gave her renewed confidence to walk the Camino Trail in Spain for the last few months. Her memories of the trip are recorded in her prints & photography exhibition which is to be held on Friday the 9th of November at 6pm at 21 Holden Ave, Kiama, NSW.
